4 Facts That Will Change The Way You See Dating.

A 4-min read going over 4 interesting facts about dating dynamics.

I’m sure you know me as the guy who goes over the real data behind dating (An association I’m happy to hold might I add), and as I’m sure you know, that means I do a lot of research.

Almost every day I come across some random piece of data that I think is super interesting but don’t know how to format into a cohesive piece of content… until now.

Here’s 4 kinda random pieces of dating data you might find interesting.

Oh. Also, I’m on 𝕏 now, by the way. I’ll be posting new content there in the coming week so follow me over there here (Promise I’ll make it worth it as always)

1. When people lose weight they get married.

A study out of the University of Pittsburg followed 1411 U.S adults after they underwent bariatric surgery (surgery that makes it so you can’t eat very much so you lose weight).

They found that in the 5 years following the surgery, 18% of the participants got married, double the US standard in that time frame.

Turns out it’s a lot easier to find someone when you’re not obese.

2. When people lose weight they get divorced.

wait… but you just said they get married?

They do. But they also get divorced more.

The same study found over the next 5 years the participants who were already married got divorced at double the rate of the general US population. Insane.

Turns out that when people lose weight they think they can do better (and according to the last fact, they’re probably right😬).

3. iPhone users have more sex.

As discussed in my 8 Charts video the platform OkCupid used to write blog articles about the data on their site to trigger controversy, promoting the site in the process.

It worked. It also led to some of the most interesting data on the Internet.

One of the weirdest facts I found when reading through their old archive was that iPhone users have more sex. Like way more sex.

I’ve known for a while now that girls thought green texts (the ones sent from androids) were a red flag, but I didn’t realize it was making this much of a difference.

Turns out (as of 2011) the average iPhone user has had nearly twice the sexual partners as the average Android user.

Strangely this doesn’t just apply to men though. Turns out that on average women with iPhones have had twice as many sexual partners as women with Androids.

So, get an iPhone. I guess? and be sus of women with iPhones? I guess? It’s a super weird, but nonetheless interesting piece of data.

4. Men’s money doesn’t matter (until they turn 23)

I discussed the concept that “men’s money does not matter when they’re young, but is huge when they’re old” before in my article The Wealth-Youth Dichotomy but I didn’t have any direct evidence to back up the fact I knew to be true… until now.

When looking through those same OkCupid articles I came across this chart displaying how many messages men receive relative to men their age depending on their income.

From the ages of 18-22 there is essentially no correlation between income and messages received. The moment a man turns 23 (the age most people graduate college)

crickets…

unless you make money of course.

Also pretty interesting to see how successful essentially every man making over 100k a year was on OkCupid back in 2011 (140K+ in today’s dollars FYI). No big dating apps really push men to list their income anymore.

That’s It
